Service not accessible from one machine

Postby hrusak » Thu May 06, 2010 5:25 pm

Hi Guys,

I found ipinfodb.com is suddenly not accessible from one of my machines (while still ok from another). I cannot even ping your server from that computer - the firewall says it is letting the ping request through, but the response times out. It had worked ok on this computer for some time, no relevant changes have been made (only system updates), and I can ping anybody else except you, so I was wondering if it could be something on your side..? The machine's IP is 188.40.107.74 if it could help.

Thank you for any tips,
Pavel

Sorry for my late answer... How are you accessing the API with that machine? I had an issue last tuesday for a few minutes but everything looks fine on my side (I can see normal amount of queries).

Thank you for your response. The machine hosts a java application, which uses a HttpClient (apache) to connect to your service with a Get method. It works fine in my local environment and worked OK on the server as well, so I do not think the problem is there. However, last week on Thursday and Friday (I didn't try on Saturday), it stopped working and I could not even ping to your service from the server (still I could from my local machine). I can again today (Sunday), so I suppose the functionality will work alright again, but I had to disable the functionality on the server and now need to wait for the next server update to re-enable to be sure.

I found in the forums somebody once had a similar problem, and it turned out his IP along with some others was blocked on your firewall as there were some attacks at that time or so. Is it possible our IP was temporarily blocked too? Anything we did wrong? I am quite sure we didn't exceed the number of requests/sec, and even if, it would probably not result in our IP being blocked anyway I guess.

Thank you,
Pavel

Hi Pavel, I do not block IP anymore and I dont have a firewall that block IP ranges... Some requests can be slowed down because of the limit but not blocked. I checked my logs and I dont see anything wrong and I dont believe my ISP is blocking anything. I would like to help you but I dont see what it can be

Maybe try sending your requests to us.ipinfodb.com

Hi Marc,
ok, something on the way then. It seems to be working now, so let's hope it will last.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your assistance and for this site.
